Regina, SK: WorkSafe Saskatchewan is pleased to announce the 2017 Youth Video Contest winners. WorkSafe Saskatchewan invited Saskatchewan filmmakers in Grades 9 to 12 to create a 2-minute video using the theme “Focus on Safety”.
The 2017 Youth Video Contest winners are:
First place: Focus on Safety by Shannen Garibay and Maria Himbeault (teacher Faron Hrynewich), Clavet Composite School, Clavet.
Second place: Shortcuts Cut Life Short by Braydon Wilkes, Jon Raedeke, (teacher Michael Brouet), Winston Knoll High Collegiate, Regina.
Third place: WCB Mission Zero Car Video by Riley Lyons, Dani Shmatov, Manav Karwal and Carson Zikman (teacher Michael Brouet), Winston Knoll High Collegiate, Regina.
A five person judging panel that included two Occupational Health officers, a film teacher and two representatives from the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board choose the winners. The videos are judged on the overall workplace health and safety message, creativity, originality, and production.
WorkSafe Saskatchewan will present the winning videos at the annual NAOSH week luncheons in Regina and Saskatoon, May 8 and 9.

Saskatchewan’s first-place winner, for the second year in a row, is Clavet Composite School. Clavet goes on to the national contest in Hamilton, Ontario, hosted by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). This team from Clavet won third place in the national contest and National Fan Favourite in 2016. CCOHS announces the winners of the national contest during NAOSH week (May 7 to 13), including National Fan Favourite. Fan Favourite is chosen by public votes.
For the last four years, a video from Saskatchewan has won National Fan Favourite. Voting for National Fan Favourite runs from Saturday, April 29 to Friday, May 5.
