Largest single campaign donation to CNIB Saskatchewan
WorkSafe Saskatchewan is pleased to announce a donation today to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind – Saskatchewan (CNIB). WorkSafe Saskatchewan, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Weber Supply, 3M Canada and Federated Co-op are donating $134,487.45 to the CNIB, the largest single campaign donation the local office has ever received. The money was raised through the sale of Mission: Zero safety glasses. The cheque will be presented at the Saskatchewan Roughrider football game tonight.
Rider Safety Tyron Brackenridge (#41) was the ambassador for the initiative.
“Eye injuries are 100 per cent preventable,” says Phil Germain, Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board Vice President of Employer Services and Prevention. “When we launched this program, eye injuries were number three on our WCB Top Five list of body parts injured on the job. We had two goals – prevent eye injuries by getting more people to wear safety glasses and support the work of the CNIB. We achieved both goals thanks to Rider Nation.”
In 2014, eye injuries had dropped off the Top Five Body Parts Injured list, going from number three to number seven. Germain says, “People in Saskatchewan supported this program, and they are obviously taking care to protect the precious gift of sight.”
The donation will support the CNIB’s programs and services. Through the eye safety program, the CNIB makes presentations at workplaces and to students in high school on the importance of Mission: Zero and preventing eye injuries.
The glasses are still available to purchase at CNIB in Regina, 2550 Broad Street, or by calling 306.525.2571.
